VMars 3.10 "show me the monkey"

OMG, there’s like, a mystery of like a stolen monkey.
Fortunately my better half was next to me to remind me who was who during the latest installment of Veronica Mars.

One interesting thing, Keith found V one day on the middle of campus. She asked how, since her cell phone was off. Keith response “I’ll tell you when you’re older.” Is Keith got surveillance equipment hidden on her shoes? Or was it he was just wandering around being a Private Eye on campus and eventually found his daughter.

Spoilers follow

So, Piz – the cute college radio DJ – tells V that “90% of life is knowing the difference” between what is good and what is bad. He was very doe eyed, and looked like he wanted to kiss V. And of course, next scene, V is back in Logan’s arms. (Oh no! ya think there will be trauma since earlier in the episode Logan did the nasty with “the cheap stuff”? Maybe he can use the “we were on a break” excuse.) Yup, they’re star-crossed.

So, V wants to infiltrate the campus animal rights activists. Uh…gee, V I think you blew your cover when you infiltrated the pot-growing sorority, or when you infiltrated the fraternity.

Maybe it runs in the family. Keith, tries to cozy up to the CrimLaw Prof in a bar. Gee Keith, you were the town sheriff, you were humiliated on national TV, you were vindicated on national TV, you wrote a book. And yes, the prof plays along for a moment, but then turns the tables on Keith, saying he knows who Keith is, and suggests Keith reads his book. However, I think that Keith knew that the Prof would know. Keith’s not dumb. So he played dumb for a reason. Why would Keith approach the Prof in a dive with a made up sob story, fishing for a confession. Because Keith wants the Prof to think that he’s just a bumbling PI, a feint to convince the Prof that Keith is no threat to the intellectual giant like the Prof.

Who killed the Dean? Well, my bet is still on the TA.

V let the monkey-napper escape? That doesn’t seem her style, she always seems to chase the truth, and let the truth out, no matter who is hurt. That’s why she has so few friends. And seriously, the monkey-napper best think of a different career.
(But golly, that monkey was cute. But then again, they all seem cute until they go through the phase and start humping the Barbie dolls. Or flinging their poo. )

Wow…an episode that I can make two Ross Gellar references to.

I wonder

moments ago, on my news.google page, I saw two headlines....

"Microsoft records record revenue"
"Ford records record loss"

I wonder...how long will Microsoft stay on top?

Good news

Measles are killing less than they used to.
It’s the small victories, in the hope that someday, children everywhere can grow up healthy.

I heart pop music

My latest find is Regina Spektor singing “Fidelity”.
When I first heard it, I thought it was Bjork. But, no, I figured after a minute, not weird enough. I like the use of pizzicato in a pop song, and the arranger realizes that string players always want to rush the pizzicato, so it’s written to sound as if it’s rushing.
And I like strange vocal things she does on the chorus, trying to make her voice sound like it is also plunking while yodeling.

Gig with twang!

Can I get little “howdy”?
Can I get a medium size “yahoo !”?
And can I get a Big OL’ South Tacoma “Yippee-ki-yay!!!!”

And that’s how we started off the gig today with a little bit of call-and-response with the audience. It went pretty good, decent enough turn out, about two-dozen. The mistakes were minor. We got PM singing a tune all by his lonesome.

This gig was Blub’s turn to pick the set list. Most the time it was me and Blub on guitars, and Blub singing, ‘cuz her voice is all pretty soundin’.

Set List:

“Older” by They Might Be Giants (me & PM sang, me on drum, PM on bass)
“Fools Names” by Blub
“Jolene” by the one, the only, Ms. Dolly Parton (PM on bass)
“Cigarette” by Blub
“Old 97” traditional (?)
“Bob” by Weird Al Yankovic, (I sang, PM on bass, I attempted slide guitar)
“Put another log on the Fire” S. Silversteen (PM & I sang, PM bass)
“Rock Candy Mountain” traditional (?) ….(PM sang )
“Day Dream Believer” the Monkeys (no guitar from Blub)

the encore

“Creque Alley” the Momas & the Papas (Blub on Amazon flute solo & PM on panpipe solo)
…and I got her to sing & play what is the crowd favorite… “Not Picasso” by Blub

gig talk

For a couple of seconds, I totally forgot how to strum the guitar.
I mostly remembered my lyrics, but I had cheat sheets in front of me. Yeah, I know, they were folk songs & country songs…I should’ve learned the parts.

I followed Blub decently on “Fools Names” & “Cigarette” but I still am not totally up to snuff on knowing those songs. At the last second Blub informed me she wasn’t playing guitar for “Creeque Alley” and so I was too nervous to sing along as I sometimes do on that one.

I kinda wish we had a recording of it. I kinda am curious how about how we did. What we can do better next time. Maybe we can talk AfterCix Labs into maybe doing a little video-recording next time.

I think this is the best we’ve performed together. We are learning to play with each other, teamwork & all that stuff. PM & I have been playing for years, and I have got to say that him marrying Blub has helped him as a musician a lot. He and I used to joke, “…what we need is to get a real singer…” Then one day, when we were joking about that and other things we needed, PM said, “I’m working on getting us a singer.” And that is how I first heard of Blub, but was too dumb to pick up on the hint. (Viva Wisconsin)

I enjoyed the set. And there were songs I never would have encountered or chosen to play. So I got new musical experiences, which I am hoping will help make me a better musician.

...and because I know ya wanna know...I dressed up, C&W boots, blue-jeans, white shirt, bolo & my black hat. It got giggles from some of the crowd.

We had all ages show up which was fun. The toddlers were singing along which was great.

Next gig...I get to chose the set list.
:-)
