V is for silly

...yeah, it doesn't make sense, but neither did the movie.

Once again we in the audience are blasted with special effects in order to distract us from a bad story.

"V for Vendetta" based off a comic book from Margaret Thatcher's England. And once again, I gotta say "the Incredibles" has ruined alot of comic books.
remember "NO CAPES!"
also V goes around "grandstanding" (making big speeches while he/she is about to do something climatic)
I think that "the Incredibles" should be required viewing for anyone making a comic book movie...and learn a few lessons from it.

grade: C
spoiler warning: Red

The movie makes reference to Guy Fawkes, a british dude who got caught with a bunch of gunpowder underneath the Parliament.

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
gunpowder, treason and plot,
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
should ever be forgot.

Is recited often in the movie.
But, they forget the next part of verse:

Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes,
'twas his intent
to blow up the King and the Parliament.
Three score barrels of powder below,
Poor old England to overthrow:
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, make the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!

Sounds like Guy Fawkes was a villian.

V says "sometimes blowing up a building can change the course of history." True, just ask Osama bin Laden. But did it turn out the way he wanted?

V by blowing up a building while broadcasting Tchiakowsky, hijacking the airwaves to "grandstand" for a few minutes, and sending out thousands of masks, within a year gets the people of London to stand up in masked, peaceful protest against the troops guarding the parliment.
First, highly unlikely that the people would get up off their couches. People are lazy, people don't really like change, and V's propaganda was a little on the light side. (Remember in this dystopia, the govt controls the media. So the people do not get an opposing view point.) All of the sudden, for the convenience of the plot, the people wake up to realize that their government is bad.
Second, remember WTO? It always starts with thousands of peaceful protesters, but when the sun goes down, the tear gas falls, the rocks are thrown, the battons are swung, and the windows are smashed.
Third, rember 9/11? When a national symbol is destroyed by terrorists, the people rally around the flag.

Evey (N. Portman) falls in love with V after he takes her to his secret lair, keeps her there for weeks, and later tortures her so that she will hate the government. What-ever.

And there was a Benny Hill segment, just to be silly I guess.
The best part of the movie, when the detective was looking for information about people that had been purged, the detective said, "a lot of things can disappear, but tax records never do." That was funny.

best quote about the movie:
in a world where fight-the-power anarchy is now marketed as a fashionable identity statement -- by the corporations that helped raise a generation on bands like Rage Against the Machine, by the armchair-leftist bloggers who flog the same righteousness day after day.

"V for Vendetta" has a playful-demon vitality, but it's designed to let political adolescents of every age congratulate themselves. It's rage against the machine by the machine.

Lent

Lent...I decided to forgo it.
I figure there was no spiritual benefit to doing it*.
And I have previously proved that I can go w/o caffeine for 40 days.

resolutino progresso

1) run twice a week still at 1.7 times a week
2) study 15 hrs a week up a bit to 4.8 hrs/week
3) publish novel negotiations fell through with first "publishers", starting negotiations with another, not for profit printer
4) write 300 words a day slightly up at 107 words/day

...and the funny thing, yesterday during class, cuz I wasn't thinking about class, that'ld never happen, I decided to forgo the Lent thing. And I scrounged up money for a can of Coke...and the school store only sells bottles.

When I finally had a Coke, I didn't taste as good as I thought it would.

It would be healthier if I did cut back on Coke and chocolate. Well, unless of course it's dark chocolate.
